The owner, Jacki, is wonderful and helpful! Definitely recommend this. They go above and beyond by ordering foods by special requests for their customers as well.
I walk past this place often but never ventured inside since I don't have any four legged family members. Sometimes the two legged ones are harder to deal with, actually most of the time. Today I wanted to get a treat for my friend's new Bichon puppy. Since her kids left for college recently having this new addition to her family is a very big deal for her. I'm meeting the doggie for the first time today and like a good auntie I bought him few cute toys and treats. Another friend of mine actually brings her dog here for his grooming needs. She always raves how gentle they are with her baby. They only use natural products, no chemicals. They have some cool treats and toys. Again, everything is natural. I spent about 20 minutes in the store just talking to the girl that was in the process of grooming this big beautiful dog. He didn't move, looked like it was a very enjoyable experience for him. The place is very clean, people are friendly and professional. Street parking only but it's very easy to find a spot.
I one took a friend's uber elderly dog there when i was pet sitting and saw how gentle they were, and when I moved to the 'hood, I immediately took my German shepherd puppy there. Kirsten handled his first nail trim beautifully with kind, happy talk and distraction techniques. Nice array of healthy treats, too.
Rachel is amazing! My dog is very skittish when it comes to trimming her nails, but Rachel was able to do it in half the time it usually takes other groomers. Definitely coming back here every time she needs a trim.
I brought my nine year old, 50 pound Brittany to the Grateful Dog today, & Kristen transformed him! "Pie" has very sensitive skin and allergies too numerous to mention. Kristen even used Pie's special medicated shampoo which we brought. Pie's nails were done and his coat was trimmed perfectly. Most importantly, Pie enjoyed the experience, he told me so. He was well behaved and relaxed. We'll be back next month!
I was looking for a groomer and came across this place on my Google maps with good reviews, I figured why not try it out... Well I was a little worried because my dog is iffy. Well I took the chance and well my dog seemed good going in there not a bark, then he went in with no hesitation. When I picked him up he was so calm not aggressive like he has in other places. I was shocked to be honest but obviously he felt the great vibe they have there and how well they treat them. We definitely will be back!
We took our 17.5 yr old Westie here. They work with older dogs and do it very well. Heather our groomer had a superb touch and manner with Fiona. Other groomers do not want to deal with older dogs, and they don't want you waiting around while they groom the dog. Grateful Dog encouraged us to stay if we wanted, and I must say they were quick and gentle with Fiona. I am recommending them to everyone I know with a dog.
Excellent job grooming my dear Wookie. What a great place with a great vibe! Kristen did such a great job and loved on my little guy. He smells like heaven and his teeth are clean. I gave out one of their $5.00 off referral cards within 5 minutes of walking out the door.
We felt comfortable leaving our dog with them. The staff was very professional and all the grooming was done in the open- no back rooms where dogs are crated. It made us feel good knowing that someone had eyes on our pet the entire time he was there. Our dog looked great when he was done! They also carry hard to find dog food/treats as well. Wish there was more convenient parking since it's a little tough to find spots when it's busy. Overall - great experience.
I don't know how they do it but they do, every single time I take my Lucky there she is such a mess and they make her look brand new. If your looking for a place look no further these Gals are great I have always had a great experience. I travel far to come see these Wonderful Ladies and it is well worth the trip. It's good to know that I have people I can trust with my precious doggy. Thanks again for another Great Grooming Day Our Lucky looks amazing
I usually take my dog to petco or pet smart. I may have to rethink that. My dog always seemed scared leaving those places. Not here. I honestly believe he liked it here. Will be back.
Love this new groomer, and the natural products they use. I have never brushed my dogs teeth before, because I just haven't been successful with it, but they love the homemade toothpaste that Heather offered. One of our pups has been skittish at other groomers and having the scissors near his face and head, but Heather had no problem at all and both pups looked great! Highly recommend this groomer, we'll be back soon!
I don't plug stores too often but I really have to say something about this groomer here in Chicago in my neighborhood that I found. My dog Lucy HATES going to the groomer or leaving the house in general. She goes outside to do her business and that's about all. On top, she's almost all blind now so she really just wants to chill at home in her bed. However, she needs to be groomed and I can't do that. I used to have a service come to my house but they are not around anymore. So I had to take a chance on this groomer. First off, there are kids! Real human kids. What better combination than a dog and a kid??? Lucy has been there twice now and she right away gravitates to the kids and sits with one of them. They are kind and knowledgeable about dogs and just let the dog(s) come to them. I can tell Lucy feels very at ease while there. She is NOT an easy dog to groom and the girl who groomed her, lets me know (like I don't know that LOL). I've had Lucy for 14 years and I know she hates everything about being groomed including having her nails cut. That's probably the worst part of it for her. Either way, if you have a dog who just hates being groomed, give this place a try. It is like a zen zone for dogs with little people helping out. If I ever had to board Lucy, I would hope they do that too!
i brought my two dogs, who were very matted, to Heather. She did an amazing job! one of them is very anxious and nervous and difficult to groom. she was so gentle and patient. it's obvious what an animal lover she is. i am so grateful i found such a competent and caring groomer!
Grateful dog is by far the best place to pamper your pet!...their love for dogs shows:) Thanks gals...Ruby Tuesday loves you! She's squeaky clean and beautified...lol
We took our Yorkie in today and he came out smelling good and looking sharp! Finding a place that offers great service to you AND your pet isn't always easy but we found that to be the case here. Staff was very accommodating and so pleasant. Great find! We'll definitely be back.
It's nice to be able to take my dog to a place with such patience and kindness. Not to mention the time they took on caring for my sweet Pepper!
I took my beagle Mona here and we will DEFINITELY be back! Amazing service from beginning to end. Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere made me feel relaxed, as well as my dog! The aqua spa was perfect and Mona's coat feels smooth and clean. Highly recommend!
Finally, a high-quality groomer in West Rogers Park! I can't say enough good things about this groomer. Like several other reviewers, I have tried a number of neighborhood spots without success. At the Grateful Dog, they bent over backwards to accommodate our schedule.
They were kind and warm with our dog Pogo, a rescue lhasa apso mix. Pogo came home looking great and smelling good -- without smelling like she had been bathed in perfume. In fact, we took her to the vets two weeks later, and they commented on how healthy her coat and nails were. So glad to have this groomer in the neighborhood.
Awesome people, awesome service, beautiful shop. My dog Rex looks amazing after his visit!!! What a wonderful atmosphere. Totally coming back!!!!
This place is great! Heather was really considerate of my dog's anxiety and did everything she could to ensure me (ok, it was probably more my anxiety) that my guy would be somewhere calm and quiet. She did an excellent job, he looked great and smelled even better! 2 weeks later and he still smells good. And not that overpowering, chemical smell. Just....fresh. Not sure what they use but it works. And his coat was as soft as it's ever been. Again, 2 weeks later and he's still as soft as a baby duck.
The salon is big and neat and clean and nicely decorated. Very welcoming and friendly. Another reviewer said they are 'patient and kind'. I wholeheartedly agree.
Brought my dog there today and will totally go back. She looks and smells great, I keep picking her up and smelling her. The women working there were very nice and helpful. Best of all my dog came home relaxed and not traumatized like she did when I brought her someplace else.
I took my two very fussy dogs to Grateful Dog. My one dog looked like the shaggy haired wolf. Big did get terrified to be at the groomer. Our grommet of many years moved to a location that is not convenient. We have been driving them there but it has been hard to make the trip there and back and than to pick them up. We were very hesitant to take them to someone new. One dog is 11 and the other one is 7 and they've never had a new groomer.
We were so HAPPY and the dogs were so relaxed age their grooming. Definitely recommend.
This is by far the best dog groomer I have been to. I have a three year old golden doodle that they did a wonderful job on. He has had a number of bad grooming experiences where I pick him up and he is terrified. When I picked him up from TheGreatfull Dog I not only received great service, a handsome boy, but most important a happy dog. Thank You again you guys are the best!
Fabulous service. I was most impressed that I was able to call and get an appointment on the same day for our penny lane. They did an excellent job grooming penny and changing her from a dirty black and white dog to a white dog. I also like the dead theme. All dead heads should support these guys so they can get back on tour this summer!
This is the kind of place I have wanted to take my dog to for years. Finally, we have a natural dog grooming salon in Rogers Park!
After having a number of negative experiences with other local groomers, of all types, I am relieved to say that my dog and I had a perfectly positive experience here.
I took my St. Bernard, Nellie, to The Grateful Dog a week ago. She came back looking, feeling, and smelling fabulous! They have great essential oil products, and Heather is wonderful with dogs! She is highly skilled and qualified, and has a way with dogs that is amazing.
My dog Nellie used to dislike going to the groomer. She hates the standard chemically ridden shampoos. She used to roll in anything to get rid of the overpowering smell. Even when we switched to no fragrance shampoo, her sensitive skin was still irritated by the harsh chemicals and detergents in regular grooming dog shampoos.
At The Grateful Dog, Nellie was so soft and clean, without the fake smell or irritation of harmful chemicals. Her skin and fur were well cared for, and conditioned.
I was so glad to she that she was not limping from careless clipping, which actually occurred at one of the last places we tried.
The biggest difference I noticed about The Grateful dog, is that Nellie came home happy, and in very high spirits. She literally did a little puppy dance in the back yard.
In early spring this year, she had been traumatized after grooming. It was heartbreaking to see her limp back home after being treated carelessly.
The Grateful Dog is a truly compassionate place, and Heather is the best groomer we have had. They have a terrific variety of essential oil, natural products, vitamins and treats for dogs. I bought the Natural Care Home Spray for flea and ticks, it smells and works great!
Thank you Heather, we really appreciate your shop's integrity and high standards. The Grateful Dog is definitely the place for us!
I took my dog, Jax, to the Grateful Dog for the first time yesterday for a full groom. I decided to give the Grateful Dog a try because of their reviews and that they seemed to focus on making grooming a positive experience for every dog. Not just the churn and burn attitude some groomers seem have. I could not be more happy for how Jax came out and how he was treated while there.
My dog is a poodle/bichon mix, so his coat needs to be groomed every few months. I've been to a few different groomers in the area (all with great reviews and cut "breed specific") All just shaved him, and worse, and charged through the nose for it. Instead of taking the time to groom his coat. The staff at the Grateful Dog listened to what I wanted and took their time with him.
From the moment I walked in the staff were friendly and attentive. They loved Jax's energy and let him play and run around before he was groomed. They groomed him exactly the way they wanted and their prices are more than fair. We'll definitely be going back.
You should give them a try if you're looking for caring and thoughtful groomers for your furry family members.
We just adopted a puppy two weeks ago and while he isn't ready to be groomed yet, we have visited the Grateful Dog several times.
The co-owners, Jackie and Heather are so warm and loving with our puppy. I stopped by initially to welcome them to the neighborhood a couple of months ago before we even had a dog and was taken in by their warmth and how wonderful the place smelled! Aroma therapy... for dogs or their owners... either way, loved it!
Now it's our favorite stop when going for a walk with our pup, especially in this frigid weather. He gets a treat when he walks in the door and lots of hugs and love from the owners. So in addition to grooming services, they sell great treats, toys, food and other doggie essentials. We bought two braided raw hides last week from Grateful Dog and our pup is still vigorously working on them with those sharp puppy teeth! I look forward to when he gets his first grooming, but for now it's such a warm and welcoming place to visit and buys treats and toys.
